In
2003 we tried an experiment with three of Adelaide's local
companies. We called it the 'Festival of Brittain'. We
staged three plays that were slightly different fare from
that usually produced by these companies, 'Come back to
the 5 & Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean', 'Two' and 'Extremities'.
We had a lot of input into the artistic content of
the productions and also the publicity for the shows.
By the end of the year we had received sufficient recognition
to know there was a market out there for what we were
trying to do. Not only did we receive accolades from
our audiences but also came away with the Messenger
drama critics' awards for 'best direction of a drama'
for all three productions, 'best dramatic actor', 'best
dramatic actress', 'best runner-up dramatic actress'
and 'best set design'. |
