October 2006

REDchilli's excellent production of 60's playwright David Storey's "Home" at Hindmarsh's Holden Street Theatres contributes enormously to Adelaide suburban theatre's standing this year.

Captivating and tremendously entertaining.
John Ovenden

There are strong performances from all five actors, directed with precision by Geoff Brittain. Lindy LeCornu, an actor of fine comic gifts, stands out as the bustling, paranoid Marjorie.

It is very funny in a quiet way, after the manner of Mother and Son.

The set, by Ole Wiebkin, is poetic, artistic and impressive using a black background relieved by a white garden setting, large white autumn leaves and curtains covered with black and white portraits of troubled souls.

Speaking in Tongues
July 2005

"Director, Geoff Brittain, has obtained admirably precise work from his quartet of actors (each doubling, or in one case tripling, roles) so that Bovell's synchronisations and alternations are instant-perfect without ever sacrificing actual characterisation.

The parallel speech and action in the beginning is breathtaking, and all handled with satisfying professionalism by four of the best actors in Adelaide. All four were outstanding."

Under Milk wood
April 2005

"The main star of this show is undoubtedly the lavish poetry and humour of Dylan Thomas's passionate and compassionate play about life in the imaginary Welsh seaside village of Llareggub.

This play is one of the gems of 20th century literature, and Red Chilli's production of it is utterly charming."

"Under Geoff Brittain’s masterful direction, the staging of this play came to life as a fascinating and entertaining feast for the imagination.

While the staging of the show mimicked that of a radio play, Brittain used theatrical licence to avoid a stagnant or stilted production. There was a nice balance of movement and seated performances, with his intriguing set design working well in the confines of the Bakehouse Theatre."

"It was thrilling to be at the opening night of the first production of a brand new theatre company!

REDchilli has produced a decidedly authentic village loaded with real people with memory etched in their faces, that finally leaves you with the impression you have actually visited the place."

  Extremities
Oct 2003

"Walker's performance is admirable and allows audience members to empathise with her confusion and dismay - although producing a confronting experience for men and especially women.

Tony Vawser is captivating. Bound and imprisoned in a fireplace for the majority of the play, Vawser still has the ability to instil fear and loathing (and at times pathetic sympathy) with little movement.

Extremities is a strong piece of theatre, which is well worth seeing, although most will only have the strength to see it once."

"Director Geoff Brittain keeps the disturbing chain of events unravelling at the right speed.

Tony Vawser is terrifying and pitiful at the same time. The attempted rape scene seems so nasty that one wants to jump up and stop him in his tracks.

Tracey Walker stays firmly in the moment and shows clearly the character’s gradual decent into a twisted game of revenge."

TWO
July 2003

"Walker and Davies are terrific in every role while Thredgold and D'Angelo,
with their great tunes and singing, are the bonus stars of the show.

A memorable night at the theatre."

"...the final scene with Peter and Tracey is riveting. Both actors were
drained at the end of the performances...."

Wendy Mildren

"Brittain is a casting agent's dream. he not only knows how to pack a punch
with his storytelling, but he knows how to cast to perfection"

"'Two' is a superb play done full justice by the stellar cast and band"

Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean
April 2003

"Director Geoff Brittain makes the most of this, assembling a fine cast for his excellent Stirling Players 20th anniversary production."

"It is capped off by a wonderful set depicting the interior of the dime store, with its faded cafe tables, shelves lined with tinned food, bunting and James Dean memorabilia."

The Advertiser
Louise Nunn

"... Geoff Brittain's masterful direction and his near-faultless cast keep chaos to a minimum."

"Viki Burrett's costumes, depicting the changes in fashion over the decades, are excellent, and the meticulous dime-store set design impressive."

"A show not to be missed."
