Red Chilli Theatre Company is
launching itself onto the Adelaide market. Our aim is to produce
high quality theatre productions that will attract a large number
of theatregoers who enjoy dynamic, relevant, challenging and
varied theatre. In these trying times some audiences, not
unreasonably, want to be amused, titillated and entertained,
and prefer to leave their deeper feelings, the biting issues
and the drama outside the theatre. We believe there are also
audiences out there who want to challenge this notion and
experience the sensitive, thought provoking and perceptive
side of theatre, who are crying out for inexpensive quality
drama that deals with broader issues.
We decided that if we wanted to stage productions, without
months of negotiations with committees on the merits of different
plays, whether it would suit their audience, or whether it
was 'your turn' to direct this year, we would go it alone.
After much research and debate we decided we needed a name
that would indicate to a prospective audience that this company
is going to deliver a strong, stimulating but satisfying experience.
It also had to differentiate us from all the other 'Players'
groups, who tended to have their own particular audience and
style of production. We came up with 'Red Chilli Theatre Company'
and we became an incorporated body in April 2004.
The company began with three founding members; Michelle Milette,
Kerry Edwards and Geoff Brittain. It is our aim to audition
for actors and crew when they are required.
