Home – David Storey

"There are strong performances from all five actors, directed with precision by Geoff Brittain. Lindy LeCornu, an actor of fine comic gifts, stands out as the bustling, paranoid Marjorie.

It is very funny in a quiet way, after the manner of Mother and Son."

 Synopsis

Home is a poignant play though full of deadpan humour. A lovely play, a sad play, a play to lose your self in. A play to trust implicitly, go with all its ebbing and flowing currents of pain and humour.

Harry and Jack, two eccentric gentlemen, discover the common bond of friendship as they while away the afternoon, talking on the terrace of a garden. Their genteel calm is shattered by the arrival of the raucous Marjorie and Kathleen. Through the meeting of these two odd couples, it becomes clear that all may not be as it first appears and that they all have stories to tell which mask their broken lives.

David Storey’s funny, poetic and poignant play won the Evening Standard Award and the New York Critics Award for Best Play of the Year.

So rare, these days, to meet someone to whom one can actually talk.
